Speed Shadowing Event
Over a year ago, we embarked on a project to transform a large power-lifting athlete into a formidable sprint athlete. Historically, large people (or animals for that matter) are not expected to move quickly, let alone sprint for long distances. In many cases, fear is associated with running fast, particularly if you exceed 230lbs in weight. Thus, we needed to proceed with caution and an intelligent approach to biomechanics and progressive loading through sprinting. Over months of trial and error and constant communication, we arrived at a scenario where longer sprints could be completed in a safe manner in order to improve the athlete’s speed and speed endurance capabilities. The result has been a reasonably large athlete with an ability to run over 100m in just over 11 seconds, week-in and week-out, with very little wear and tear.
Join us in a ‘speed shadowing’ event where you get to not only observe workouts with Hunter Charneski, but also participate in the decision making around where we go next with his training. Each day will include a full workout on the track or field, followed by a detailed debrief on how the session went and what we can do in subsequent sessions to improve the situation. This real-time event is where the learning actually begins. We won’t be inundating you with readings, PowerPoint slides or philosophical ramblings. We’ll be coaching and communicating in real time and discussing why, what, where, when and how much.
This event will take place on short notice in Vancouver, BC, one of the most beautiful destinations in the world from August 26 to 30, 2019 at secret locations around the City. There will be one workout per day followed by extensive discussion around the approach day-to-day, as well as video review sessions. The cost for the five-day event is only $549 US per person (just over $100 per day) and space is extremely limited, as is this is an intimate affair. Key features of the “Hunter Gathering” event include:
• In person involvement with the on-track and on-field workouts with Hunter Charneski, guided by Derek M. Hansen.
• Detailed overview of the athlete’s history and evolution through the training process over the last 12-14 months. This will include access to annual training plans.
• Ongoing discussion of decision making around prescribed training elements as they happen.
• Prescription of work over high and low intensities, with overall training loads and training elements changing from day to day.
• An opportunity to voice your thoughts on the process, as well as help guide decision making around individual training scenarios.
• Full debrief of workouts and athlete status following each training session.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with other professionals in a real-time training session scenario.
• Access to video footage taken during sessions, including any discussions that are recorded during the event.
